Distilling & Lube oils
Refineria Isla Curaçao B.V. processes the received crude via the three crude distillers CD-2A, CD-2B, CD-3. The operation of these crude distillers is such that three crude trains are formed:
- The General Purpose crude train, where heavy and light/medium crude is processed at CD-2A and CD-3.
- The Paraffinic crude train, where paraffinic crude is processed in blocked out operation at CD-3 for the manufacturing of high viscosity paraffinic lube oils.
- The Naphthenic crude train, where naphthenic crude is processed at CD-2B for the manufacturing of naphthenic lube oils.
Once the crude is separated in different petroleum fractions in the crude distillers, the bottom product from the 3 Crude Distillers are routed to 5 Vacuum Distillation units. The products from the atmospheric crude distillers and vacuum distillation units are routed to several other processes in the “Conversion & Cracking” area and in the “Hydro-Processing & Light Ends” area.
The Paraffinic lube oil train after atmospheric distillation and vacuum distillation consist of the Furfural Extraction Unit I, the Propane Dewaxing Unit and the MEK Dewaxing Unit which in the end yield the valuable paraffinic lube oils.
The Naphthenic lube oil train, after atmospheric distillation and vacuum distillation consist of the Furfural Extraction Unit 2, the ADRU unit and the LVI unit, which is a hydro-treater in the “Hydroporcessing & Light Ends” area.
Apart from the above units, the Distilling area also has a Naphtha Hydro treater (NHT-2) and an Avtur (Jet Fuel) treater.
